Is Cisco practicing social Darwinism in telecommunications by forcing things into IP?

If they are, ir would having nothing to do with "forcing things into IP". Cisco still has plenty of support for other protocols like IPX, AppleTalk, DECNet, etc. But there are no applications written for any application other than IP at this time. I think that if a new protocol were suddenly the big news, Cisco would have no issue using it - their initial claim to fame was the multiprotocol router after all. If they are committing some form of social Darwinism, it's not because of the protocol selection.
