Why do a lot of Wiccans (NOT ALL) think that their religion is ancient when it isn't?

Look at anything on Yahoo that mentions paganism, you'll find a bunch of Wiccans spouting crap about how their religion came before Christianity, when it was invented in the 1950's by some random dude. Ancient paganism came before Christianity, but not Wicca. And you can't reason with them using historical facts or information from archaeologists, they just spout about how their religion was the first religion and other crap like that. What is with them?
