Honestly, quit worrying about it! I had a similar situation happen, and I ended up getting strung along and used a bit before I even realized what was going on. Then because I figured it out soon enough, I walked and he was left saying the "I swear I'd ask you out, eventually" lines. But do whatever you think is right if he does ask you out. True friends love you no matter what!
