How to check your computer's installations in progress?

Okay i'm trying to play scrabble online at pogo.com, and the pop up window keeps closing and saying there's a problem. And im positive that the problem is with java. So i went and tried to download java, when i did a window popped up saying "1500 installation already in progress". So after that failed i tried deleting java completely off of my computer, it wouldn't let me. How do i get java off of my computer completely. Or are there other installations in progress that would alter the java download. Please be detailed.
