Ideas for our Halloween costumes?

I'm going as a witch. [typical, I know] I'm wearing a white dress and want to put like black ribbon around it to make it work. I've got black boots and am wearing fishnets. That part is no problem. What I need help with is how to make the hat look better. It's your typical plain black satin witch's hat. yuck. any ideas how to dress it up? oh and my boyfriend is going as my broom lol. any ideas how to make that look less "cheap" like we've got ideas but they'll just end up not looking right... help would be cool with both the hat part and the making him into a broom part
